Zen-Hop Beatboxing with Forefeather
Anyone who has more than dipped a toe in Yoga practice has undoubtedly discovered the profound but often untapped power of the breath. Pranayama and beatboxing - both breath-driven practices - are among the most enigmatic and potent practices within their respective fields of yoga and hip-hop. With this unique and immersive new approach, you'll learn how to find the perfect balance between internal and external energy management, using technologies based in ancient breath practice and contemporary hip-hop artistry.

This class will be divided into three segments. The first third will be mostly lecture, followed by a short period of learning techniques and group discussion, which will then lead into a forty-minute practice. The practice segment will be about half seated and half movement, but can still be quite heating and challenging, especially for those without much experience in pranayama or beatboxing.

Embodying Compassion: Cultivating A Practice That Helps
Limited Capacity filling up

As the saying goes, “You have to learn to love yourself before you can learn to love someone else.” But what if the opposite were just as true? How does our compassion for others change our capacity to care for ourselves? Today, yoga and contemplative practice are more popular than ever as a means of self-transformation. But these tools can also be powerful catalysts for cultivating a compassionate connection to the world around us. This workshop explores yoga and contemplative practices designed to charge the body with compassion. Through simple and accessible techniques of movement, meditation, and inquiry, we exercise our capacity for kindness and caring. Along the way, we mine evidence-based research showing how compassion and service transform us down to our very cells, and how the love we offer up circles back to strengthen ourselves.

Decelerate: Yin Yoga & The Art of Deceleration
Limited Capacity filling up

Are you being duped by your nervous system's ancient wiring? Our Western way of living too often wakes up the ever-present fight, flight or freeze nature of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). Sometimes we're not even aware we've ignited the SNS which can create agitation over the long term, awakening the endocrine system -- releasing hormones like adrenalin and cortisol -- to combat the "foe." Bombarded too often we become susceptible to a myriad of issues, including frustration and fatigue. What if all that foe-fighting makes the art of deceleration, of mindful pause, elusive? In this deeply tranquil YIN practice you'll learn more about how to access the key to the other 50% of your nervous system, the PNS through poses and breath awareness. Come claim your piece of nirvana!

The Psychology of Movement
Limited Capacity seats available

We can learn much about ourselves on the inside by watching ourselves from the outside. That's why our yoga practice is as much a psychological (and spiritual) practice as it is a physical one. In fact, movement and patterns of movement are revealing indicators of emotions and belief systems, both conscious and unconscious. And while counselors work with those underlying thoughts and feelings, as yoga practitioners we have the ability to enact similar changes on a daily basis simply by changing the way we hold ourselves and move. Join me for a psychological exploration of the asana practice where you will not only come into greater awareness of your own behavioral patterns as they show up on a yoga mat - but also how to use your practice in making real change off the mat and in your life.

This is a bonus activity. Add this class to your schedule on top of your four activities per day! All are welcome.

Unravel: Yin Yoga as “Medicine”
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Slow-paced and methodical, a YIN Yoga practice addresses our "stimulation junkie" tendencies activated by the amp'd up world around us. The practice is "medicine" in several ways. We choose to invite more spaciousness within the reservoir of the body's deeper layers – physically, emotionally, spiritually. We deeply decelerate. We unravel the tensions we carry bit by bit. We feel and acknowledge the truth of our cranky body parts, exhaustion and worries...alchemizing these distractions through YIN's four pillars: Edge. Awareness. Stillness. Time. Like to move fast and furious? A YIN Yoga practice can either be a nemesis or new-found oasis but don't let YIN's slowness fool you!  Lots happens in subtle realms as we hang out in YIN poses. We make room for the nervous system, circulatory, digestive and hormonal/immune system! We rebuild the body stronger and more resilient while stimulating hydration within the deep connective tissues. We leave calm...grounded...observant...flexible. Medicine.

Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Yoga Nidra is an opportunity to move away from body awareness and body sensation through guided meditation while in Shavasana. When this is done properly and with the right intention, a great amount of healing can take place on the physical and subtle levels. So much of life is dissipation of energy. Yoga Nidra is recharging. When you return to the body, the breath and the world, you will feel re-born. Self Knowledge is knowledge that brings peace to the mind. We all live in this illusion and are so fortunate to have the ego so we can experience everything. When you better understand the nature of reality and what is behind it, this leads to contentment that is ultimately beyond understanding. Please bring an extra layer to class.

“Slack Tide”: Yin Yoga and The Edge
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Slack tide is a short period of time in a body of tidal water when the water is completely unstressed, and therefore no movement either way in the tidal stream, and occurs before the direction of the tidal stream reverses. We will practice YIN Yoga to locate that "unstressed place" within our body using Taoism's YIN and YANG polarities and focused on one of YIN Yoga's main pillars of practice: The Edge.. With care and compassion we'll develop greater awareness for edge in each pose and in every breath, inviting exploration of the body's deeper connective tissues to induce our own metaphoric "slack tide." We'll hold poses generally 3-5 minutes neutralizing any struggles in the major intersections of our body where energy tends to get obstructed -- neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles – leveraging traction and compression to improve and nurture our own tidal ebb and flow.

Skygazing: A Tibetan Meditation Event
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

An ancient Tibetan meditation technique, SkyGazing is a wonderful method to incorporate into your current meditation practice or try as a new practitioner. It is a core practical application of Dzogchen meditation. First we will practice a short yoga/qi gong sequence to prepare the body for sitting, while also enhancing greater stillness of the mind. Then comes SkyGazing. In SkyGazing we learn to relax, let go, and let ourselves "be" in the natural state of things, just as they are. We merge the finite, thinking heart-mind with the absolute, unconditional infinity of essential Buddha-like being. SkyGazing can be done anywhere, but is best suited to outdoor venues like Stratton's beautiful mountain setting! Weather permitting the meditation segment will take place outdoors! Bring a blanket and wear layers.

Gravity: A Thai/Yin Yoga Fusion Workshop for Teachers
Limited Capacity seats available

The slow pace of YIN Yoga and its method keeps your students low to their mats and lends to wonderful, artful assists. Many assists from the practice of Thai Yoga informs the receiver of gravity, grounding, edge and the importance of breath inherent in a YIN Yoga practice. Thai Yoga is infused by Buddhism's metta practice of loving kindness. So we'll start off with a metta practice followed by a short YIN class for everyone to get in "the zone!" Next you'll partner up, receiving and applying these assists to the same YIN poses just practiced, building confidence to incorporate them into your YIN or Yoga offerings as well as with willing family and friends! Some familiarity with Thai massage for this class is helpful...but not required. However, good balance and steadiness will be greatly appreciated by your students when offering assists. Come play!

Can Three Feet of Peace Change the World?
Limited Capacity seats available

Now that we've spent four days cultivating our own personal peace, how do we bring that peace to the world as a collective?

During the last election season, Deborah traveled 9,000 miles by car, visiting 40 states, interviewing hundreds of people about their inner peace. She has created the theory of "3ft of Peace". The three feet of peace speaks to our own personal three-foot circumference. These collective three-foot increments can significantly alter our world in ways we may not fully comprehend.

She will be sharing excerpts from LiveaMoment's Our State of Peace documentary series, along with new video blogs from participants of this weekend's Wanderlust VT, as well as insights from interviews around the globe.

"Change occurs within your next choice. What will you choose?"
