Yoga and the Pursuit of Happiness: Finding Flow
Limited Capacity seats available

Ever had a practice that totally sucked you in, the kind where everything falls into place and time flies by? If so, you've experienced what psychologists call Flow, a meaningful and transformative state of profound mental and physical absorption. Ancient yogic texts such as the Yoga Sutra describe Flow states as a gateway to enlightenment, but modern research in psychology and neuroscience suggests that Flow isn't a mystical state; rather, it's an innate human experience available to all. This workshop explores what makes Flow tick—how to find it, why it's often elusive, and how to build a yoga practice that deepens your capacity to experience Flow on and off the mat.

Leave the comfort of your mat on shore and step into the beauty of a floating studio. This class is designed to introduce students to the unique practice of SUP Yoga. We will take time to become acquainted with the board by learning how to align your body to evenly distribute weight and create balance. The floating studio provides the perfect setting to let go of the monkey mind and be fully present in the moment. (If you are not fully present, you are in the water.) After a short meditation and gentle stretching we will heat things up with sun salutations and a progressive practice where you can challenge yourself and redefine body awareness on an unstable foundation. There will be plenty of play time to test out your favorite poses on the water. Be prepared to laugh, have fun and test the waters!

Unpacking Chaturanga: Mechanics of a Misunderstood Asana
Limited Capacity seats available

Maybe the most ubiquitous and yet still mystifying of poses in the modern day yoga class, chaturanga has garnered quite the reputation. It's a heat builder, it's a strength based posture, it's dangerous, it's useless, it's crucial, it's what makes a vinyasa flow… It's the shoulder shredder, the widow maker… Chaturanga can be a phenomenal opportunity for full body engagement, energetic unfolding and a physical manifestation of resolve and attention. Lets reclaim this shape and learn to work with, not around it. In this workshop we will break down the elements of a successful and healthy asana. We will learn the biomechanics of the shape, technical drills and warm ups, modifications and how to truly embody this complicated asana. Some movement, some discussion, lots of opportunity for questions and knowledge bombs. Don't worry. We won't be in a low pushup for 90min.

Centering Skills
Limited Capacity seats available

All yoga talk aside, we all have an innate understanding that there is a link between our posture and our psychology in that we all respond to one another's body language, more or less consciously, more or less compassionately. This works both ways. We may also influence how we feel by altering how we posture ourselves, and recent findings in neuroscience validate this. Since yoga postures are revelatory and dynamic examples of our everyday posture, they offer a range of opportunities to self-adjust. In this way, among others, yoga asana can be seen as a necessary preliminary to meditation practice. The goal of this class is to learn self-adjusting techniques that can facilitate well-adjusted posture and perspective. Simple concepts that describe how the body fits together will be made clear within the context of a sequential asana practice. The goal is to develop the skill to self-adjust.

Stratton Mountain Bike Tour for Beginners [+$42]
Limited Capacity filling up
Adding this requires an additional ticket, which can be purchased here

Don't forget to come back and schedule your session after you've made your purchase!
Our tour will begin at the South Londonderry Depot. The Depot was constructed in the 1870's and was the endpoint of the West River Railroad. After a brief pedal on a dirt road, we will begin on the West River Trail. Once we are on the trail we'll have two options; one option is to take the high road, the former site of the railroad, the trail is smoother and the gradient is the same for most of the ride to the Winhall Campground. The other option is to take the slightly more technical lower trail, which hugs the banks of the West River. The lower trail will offer a more challenging ride to the campground with roots, rocks, and potential mud puddles.

We will make our way through the campground via paved roads and then continue on the West River Trail. The trail will have some ups and downs but will remain wide and relatively smooth. After roughly one mile, we will have the option to ride out to an overlook and turn back or continue toward Angel Falls. Continuing past the overlook the trail becomes more technical and more strenuous. There is a steep climb followed by a technical descent and then a series of ups and downs to "Angel Falls".

*All tours will be an "out and back", groups will meet the shuttle at the Winhall Campground. If time allows we will have the option for a quick swim in the West River before returning to Stratton.

*Helmets and bikes will be provided. Gloves and eye protection are not required, but are recommended.

By expanding our boundaries and taking bold risks, we can free ourselves from the constraints of the mind and trust that all is coming. We'll also pause for a few trust exercises with a partner—and maybe even some partner yoga—before we finish with a special meditation technique that dares us to be vulnerable.

Sun Worship - Basics

In this workshop formatted class, we will break down the fundamentals of Surya Namaskar, from it's meaning to it's application. Probably the most widely adapted practice across various yoga methods, it can be a profoundly moving experience, BUT with repetition can cause pain in our wrists, shoulders and lower back. This class will focus on the form, paying special attention to the alignment of all the postures that create this practice. We will also explore different ways to practice it, playing with variations and changes in rhythm, speed, and breath. This class is for anyone looking to learn, or those needing to break some nasty vinyasa habits. You know who you are!

X's & O's
Limited Capacity seats available

This workshop is a smartly sequenced flow of postures that make sense to the body in a way that allows for remarkable change in a short period of time. The first portion of the class "X's"... is about cross patterns in the body. These are the stretches that really open us physically and create postural shift in both the chest and spine. During the second half ..."O's" the focus is on using that opening to try new poses and discovering places of balance, space and restoration. Rather than highlighting any one group of muscles this session touches lightly on all areas to leave the practitioner feeling deliciously complete. The closing song for this class on harmonium is "I want to know what love is."

Using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)'s 5-Element “mutual generation cycle” as our guide we’ll visit a sequence of YIN Yoga poses & breath to connect with characteristics of each element: Earth. Metal. Water. Wood. Fire. Awareness for this generating energy (think “birthing”) of one element to another aids us in becoming more physically & mentally attuned to this cycle, respectful of the ever-unfolding continuum of Life. With the summer season blooming we'll pay particular homage to the FIRE element's four meridian channels – heart, small intestine, pericardium and triple heater – enhancing joy and growth with coolness to balance the rising heat. How these elements interweave with everything outside & within us can bring fresh insights into our experiences of Yoga while enhancing our inter-dependent connectedness.

The class will begin with the chanting of Om and dedication of the practice, then move into Sun Salutations to warm up the body followed by about 70-minutes of practice of the main and most efficient yoga postures. If one holds the poses long enough, there is often a chance to taste meditation right there in the Asana. The class will conclude with a deep experience of short-form Yoga Nidra. Apanayama: Fusing Pranayama with Beatboxing
Limited Capacity seats available

Anyone who has more than dipped a toe in Yoga practice has undoubtedly discovered the profound but often untapped power of the breath. Pranayama and beatboxing - both breath-driven practices - are among the most enigmatic and potent practices within their respective fields of yoga and hip-hop. With this unique and immersive new approach, you'll learn how to find the perfect balance between internal and external energy management, using technologies based in ancient breath practice and contemporary hip-hop artistry.

This class will be divided into three segments. The first third will be mostly lecture, followed by a short period of learning techniques and group discussion, which will then lead into a forty-minute practice. The practice segment will be about half seated and half movement, but can still be quite heating and challenging, especially for those without much experience in pranayama or beatboxing.

Simplify How One Posture Folds and Unfolds Into Another. There are only so many ways in which the body is designed to fold. Learn unique and progressive sequences that exemplify how the body is made to fit together. We begin by examining some of the most foundational postures that are necessary to progress towards the vast array of bound and folded yoga postures that one might one day practice. We continue by putting these together into sequences that are worth practicing in repetition.

Vinyasa – For Life
Limited Capacity filling up

The foundation of a yoga practice is Ahimsa, or 'do no harm' - to others AND to your own body. Flow style yoga can make you feel amazing, but you can also develop some pretty gnarly injuries. This class focuses on 3 vinyasa 'hot spots', places that new (and longtime) students often experience pain: The wrists, shoulders and lower back. Flow style yoga shouldn't just be for the young and strong, but rather for anyone who is dedicated to moving through asana intelligently for life. Half of this class will be an experiential workshop focusing on key alignment points for some classic postures which compromise these parts of the body. We will also put these principles into practice with a simple vinyasa sequence. (This class is designed for beginners, all students who want to revisit the foundation of their practice, and teachers seeking tools for teaching basics classes.)

Portraits in Nature
Limited Capacity filling up

Ever wonder how to take a picture of someone that truly makes them shine? In this portrait photography class we will discuss both the technical nuances of natural light, exposure, and angles as well as the importance of connecting to your subject in an authentic way. We will hike to a location on Stratton Mountain and use the natural surroundings as a backdrop for portraits that bring out your subjects personality and true spirit. You will each take turns being both the subject and the photographer, learning how to combine the benefits of both candid and posed photography. In this exercise, there will be an emphasis on how to hold space in order to create an environment that is both engaging and natural. You will come away with beautiful portraits of yourself and your new friends, and a better understanding of how to take a portrait that captures someones true essence.
