Ashtanga Yoga: A Counted Primary Series
Limited Capacity seats available

It was a long time before the first western students of Pattabhi Jois realized that the Sanskrit words he was saying through class were numbers! Ekam inhale, Dve exhale, Trini inhale … their teacher was counting their movements with breath. You see, that's not how they originally learned to practice. Because traditionally and still today, the series is taught individually by a teacher, with each pose allowed to be fully developed before being taught the next. We call this self-practice or the Mysore method. But there is enormous benefit for both mind and body by practicing the movements in a led counted style, emphasizing the vinyasa. The intention is to lead students toward a more balanced practice through a series they are already familiar with. And why this class is intended for students who have had exposure to the Ashtanga practice, though do not necessarily need to be proficient.

Yoga and the Pursuit of Happiness: Finding Flow
Limited Capacity seats available

Ever had a practice that totally sucked you in, the kind where everything falls into place and time flies by? If so, you've experienced what psychologists call Flow, a meaningful and transformative state of profound mental and physical absorption. Ancient yogic texts such as the Yoga Sutra describe Flow states as a gateway to enlightenment, but modern research in psychology and neuroscience suggests that Flow isn't a mystical state; rather, it's an innate human experience available to all. This workshop explores what makes Flow tick—how to find it, why it's often elusive, and how to build a yoga practice that deepens your capacity to experience Flow on and off the mat.

Unpacking Chaturanga: Mechanics of a Misunderstood Asana
Limited Capacity seats available

Maybe the most ubiquitous and yet still mystifying of poses in the modern day yoga class, chaturanga has garnered quite the reputation. It's a heat builder, it's a strength based posture, it's dangerous, it's useless, it's crucial, it's what makes a vinyasa flow… It's the shoulder shredder, the widow maker… Chaturanga can be a phenomenal opportunity for full body engagement, energetic unfolding and a physical manifestation of resolve and attention. Lets reclaim this shape and learn to work with, not around it. In this workshop we will break down the elements of a successful and healthy asana. We will learn the biomechanics of the shape, technical drills and warm ups, modifications and how to truly embody this complicated asana. Some movement, some discussion, lots of opportunity for questions and knowledge bombs. Don't worry. We won't be in a low pushup for 90min.

Ashtanga Yoga: A Counted Primary Series
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

It was a long time before the first western students of Pattabhi Jois realized that the Sanskrit words he was saying through class were numbers! Ekam inhale, Dve exhale, Trini inhale … their teacher was counting their movements with breath. You see, that’s not how they originally learned to practice.

Centering Skills
Limited Capacity seats available

All yoga talk aside, we all have an innate understanding that there is a link between our posture and our psychology in that we all respond to one another's body language, more or less consciously, more or less compassionately. This works both ways. We may also influence how we feel by altering how we posture ourselves, and recent findings in neuroscience validate this. Since yoga postures are revelatory and dynamic examples of our everyday posture, they offer a range of opportunities to self-adjust. In this way, among others, yoga asana can be seen as a necessary preliminary to meditation practice. The goal of this class is to learn self-adjusting techniques that can facilitate well-adjusted posture and perspective. Simple concepts that describe how the body fits together will be made clear within the context of a sequential asana practice. The goal is to develop the skill to self-adjust.

Zen-Hop Beatboxing with Forefeather
Anyone who has more than dipped a toe in Yoga practice has undoubtedly discovered the profound but often untapped power of the breath. Pranayama and beatboxing - both breath-driven practices - are among the most enigmatic and potent practices within their respective fields of yoga and hip-hop. With this unique and immersive new approach, you'll learn how to find the perfect balance between internal and external energy management, using technologies based in ancient breath practice and contemporary hip-hop artistry.

This class will be divided into three segments. The first third will be mostly lecture, followed by a short period of learning techniques and group discussion, which will then lead into a forty-minute practice. The practice segment will be about half seated and half movement, but can still be quite heating and challenging, especially for those without much experience in pranayama or beatboxing.

Embodying Compassion: Cultivating A Practice That Helps
Limited Capacity filling up

As the saying goes, “You have to learn to love yourself before you can learn to love someone else.” But what if the opposite were just as true? How does our compassion for others change our capacity to care for ourselves? Today, yoga and contemplative practice are more popular than ever as a means of self-transformation. But these tools can also be powerful catalysts for cultivating a compassionate connection to the world around us. This workshop explores yoga and contemplative practices designed to charge the body with compassion. Through simple and accessible techniques of movement, meditation, and inquiry, we exercise our capacity for kindness and caring. Along the way, we mine evidence-based research showing how compassion and service transform us down to our very cells, and how the love we offer up circles back to strengthen ourselves.

Vinyasa RX : Shoulders And Neck - For Teachers
Limited Capacity seats available

Jillian has been teaching Vinyasa RX for several years, and is part of the Kula Yoga 200 and 75 hour Teacher Training curriculum, as well as the Wanderlust Teacher Training manual and curriculum. In this therapeutic workshop, we will explore the most pervasive issues of the shoulders and neck, AND the antidotes - all in relationship to our asana practice. As teachers (and students of yoga) it is crucial to be able to help guide our students out of misalignment and suffering, offering new ways to use and express their bodies. What to expect: we will observe several bodies and look for similar patterns throughout, and ones that lead to discomfort and/or pain. Then we will replace the old patterns with new ones. This offering ALWAYS leads to very interesting conversation and break throughs.

Stratton Mountain Bike Tour [+$42]
Limited Capacity seats available
Adding this requires an additional ticket, which can be purchased here

Don't forget to come back and schedule your session after you've made your purchase!
Our tour will begin at the South Londonderry Depot. The Depot was constructed in the 1870's and was the endpoint of the West River Railroad. After a brief pedal on a dirt road, we will begin on the West River Trail. Once we are on the trail take the slightly more technical lower trail, which hugs the banks of the West River. The lower trail will offer a more challenging ride to the campground with roots, rocks, and potential mud puddles.

We will make our way through the campground via paved roads and then continue on the West River Trail. The trail will have some ups and downs but will remain wide and relatively smooth. After roughly one mile, we will have the option to ride out to an overlook and turn back or continue toward Angel Falls. Continuing past the overlook the trail becomes more technical and more strenuous. There is a steep climb followed by a technical descent and then a series of ups and downs to "Angel Falls".

*All tours will be an "out and back", groups will meet the shuttle at the Winhall Campground. If time allows we will have the option for a quick swim in the West River before returning to Stratton.

*Helmets and bikes will be provided. Gloves and eye protection are not required, but are recommended.

Learning to use the legs well lightens the load on the upper body allowing for a lighter and more versatile handstand. Proper wrist angles for a variety of handstands types. The Psychology of Movement
Limited Capacity seats available

We can learn much about ourselves on the inside by watching ourselves from the outside. That's why our yoga practice is as much a psychological (and spiritual) practice as it is a physical one. In fact, movement and patterns of movement are revealing indicators of emotions and belief systems, both conscious and unconscious. And while counselors work with those underlying thoughts and feelings, as yoga practitioners we have the ability to enact similar changes on a daily basis simply by changing the way we hold ourselves and move. Join me for a psychological exploration of the asana practice where you will not only come into greater awareness of your own behavioral patterns as they show up on a yoga mat - but also how to use your practice in making real change off the mat and in your life.

The Yoga of Awakening
Limited Capacity seats available

Healing happens when we begin to mend the separation in our consciousness between the mind, body and spirit. Understanding this interdependency can radically shift the way we “see” the body, empowering us to support our own health and wellness in a more integrated- and therefore holistic-way. Through yoga, we can explore the mind/body connection, the impact our emotional life has on our health, how to “read” or map the body symbolically, and how to interpret these physiological/emotional messages as spiritual guidance meant to open us to love, acceptance and to appreciate the interconnection that binds us all as one. All levels; some discussion, mostly asana.

Sun Worship - Basics
Limited Capacity seats available

In this workshop formatted class, we will break down the fundamentals of Surya Namaskar, from it's meaning to it's application. Probably the most widely adapted practice across various yoga methods, it can be a profoundly moving experience, BUT with repetition can cause pain in our wrists, shoulders and lower back. This class will focus on the form, paying special attention to the alignment of all the postures that create this practice. We will also explore different ways to practice it, playing with variations and changes in rhythm, speed, and breath. This class is for anyone looking to learn, or those needing to break some nasty vinyasa habits. You know who you are!

You see, that’s not how they originally learned to practice.

This is a bonus activity. Add this class to your schedule on top of your four activities per day! All are welcome.

We will identify the most pervasive issues of these areas, AND the antidotes - all in relationship to our asana practice. Yoga Nidra and Self Knowledge
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Yoga Nidra is an opportunity to move away from body awareness and body sensation through guided meditation while in Shavasana. When this is done properly and with the right intention, a great amount of healing can take place on the physical and subtle levels. So much of life is dissipation of energy. Yoga Nidra is recharging. When you return to the body, the breath and the world, you will feel re-born. Self Knowledge is knowledge that brings peace to the mind. We all live in this illusion and are so fortunate to have the ego so we can experience everything. When you better understand the nature of reality and what is behind it, this leads to contentment that is ultimately beyond understanding. Please bring an extra layer to class.

This is a bonus activity. Add this class to your schedule on top of your four activities per day! All are welcome.

After a brief period of rest in Shavasana to remove all fatigue, Color Breathing and the Bija Mantras will be carefully taught. Sun Salutation Formula
Limited Capacity filling up

Sun salutations are often at the beginning of vinyasa yoga practices. Beyond providing a good warm-up, salutations establish the volume and rhythm of breath, incorporate foundational postures and the dynamic transitions between them, improve spatial awareness, enhance the ability to act upon one's imagination, and set the tone for an entire practice. Included: Stepping Salutations Learning to step forward and back lightly. Stepping well is also the foundation for learning "the jumps" forward and back. Learn multiple stepping salutations, and move them at various tempos to enhance your practice with agility and lightness. The Jumps Breath control, form, and technique facilitate a fluid salutation practice. Learn to be efficient in movement, economical in breath, and build up energy for the rest of the practice by refining each moment of the exercise. No more random efforts that lead towards random results. Align your gears and get moving with freedom and ease.

Gravity: A Thai/Yin Yoga Fusion Workshop for Teachers

The slow pace of YIN Yoga and its method keeps your students low to their mats and lends to wonderful, artful assists. Many assists from the practice of Thai Yoga informs the receiver of gravity, grounding, edge and the importance of breath inherent in a YIN Yoga practice. Thai Yoga is infused by Buddhism's metta practice of loving kindness. So we'll start off with a metta practice followed by a short YIN class for everyone to get in "the zone!" Next you'll partner up, receiving and applying these assists to the same YIN poses just practiced, building confidence to incorporate them into your YIN or Yoga offerings as well as with willing family and friends! Some familiarity with Thai massage for this class is helpful...but not required. However, good balance and steadiness will be greatly appreciated by your students when offering assists. Come play!

Can Three Feet of Peace Change the World?
Limited Capacity seats available

Now that we've spent four days cultivating our own personal peace, how do we bring that peace to the world as a collective?

During the last election season, Deborah traveled 9,000 miles by car, visiting 40 states, interviewing hundreds of people about their inner peace. She has created the theory of "3ft of Peace". The three feet of peace speaks to our own personal three-foot circumference. These collective three-foot increments can significantly alter our world in ways we may not fully comprehend.

She will be sharing excerpts from LiveaMoment's Our State of Peace documentary series, along with new video blogs from participants of this weekend's Wanderlust VT, as well as insights from interviews around the globe.

"Change occurs within your next choice. What will you choose?"
